Meat and Potato Casserole

Meat and Potato Casserole is a hearty, comforting dish that combines layers of seasoned ground beef, tender potatoes, and melted cheese. Perfect for weeknight dinners or potlucks, this casserole is a crowd-pleaser that brings warmth and satisfaction to the table.


Ingredients

For the Casserole:

  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 4 cups (about 1kg) russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups (360ml) milk
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup (25g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional Additions:

  • 1 cup (150g) frozen mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, and corn)
  • 1/2 cup (50g) cooked bacon bits
  • 1 cup (240ml) beef broth (for added flavor in the meat mixture)
