Ingredients
For the Casserole:
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 4 cups (about 1kg) russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 cups (360ml) milk
- 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
- 2 cups (200g) shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup (25g) grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Optional Additions:
- 1 cup (150g) frozen mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, and corn)
- 1/2 cup (50g) cooked bacon bits
- 1 cup (240ml) beef broth (for added flavor in the meat mixture)
